Taking advantage of deactivated buildings (former primary schools whose architecture belongs to the so-called "centennial plan"), the buildings and their respective surrounding spaces were rebuilt and adapted, allowing them to maintain the original architectonic features and to reconvert the interior spaces in order to adapt new needs and functionalities.
These accommodation spaces (with two bedrooms, living room and kitchenette) are equipped and decorated with themes alluding to the environment in which they are inserted.
This whole project is based on the full respect for original concepts and materials and incorporates innovative concepts and materials guaranteeing: High levels of comfort; High safety standards; High levels of energy use and efficiency; Absolute respect for the environment and heritage.
To make the spaces cozy and competitive in the national supply market, there was a careful selection of the materials, furniture and decorative elements used.
In terms of building materials, a combination of traditional materials was applied, with others more efficient from a thermal and acoustic point of view. The furniture of modern minimalist lines is combined with decorative elements representative of the local cultural identity.
In the surrounding area, architectural and landscaping solutions have been created that, due to the diversity of materials (wooden decking, calcareous limestone, gravel, stone slabs, stone walls) promote a spirit of interpretation and an atmosphere of reflection.
In addition to the remarkable manifestations of the Roman and Arab cultures, in this region populated by secular olive trees and the widest spot of portuguese Oak in Europe, you can enjoy the purity of the air and the scenic beauty of the surrounding mountains.
The municipality of Alvaiázere, located in the Terras do Sicó, occupies an area of about 160km2 between meadows and hills, which highlights a natural heritage of undeniable relevance for its diversity, specificity and quality.
In Alvaiazerian lands it is impossible to ignore the richness of the landscape heritage (in which the fauna and flora unfold in multiple species) and the extraordinary character of the geological, archaeological, architectural, ethnographic and gastronomic heritage strongly marked by the geomorphology of the region.

SERRA DO SICÓ
At 553 meters at the highest point, this mountain that gives name to the entire limestone massif is the highest of its western block. The intense lapping process it has undergone, makes the Serra de Sicó one of the region's magnificent examples of karstic landscape. In this massif, there is a vegetation of Mediterranean characteristics, where the raregreen spots are the groves of Abraham's oaks and small residual areas of the forests of Portuguese oak and cork oak. In these open areas orchids grow with ease, as do other rhizomatous and bulbous plants, such as serapias cordigera and Ophrys scolopax subsp. scolopax. Their high commercial interest leads them to be often harvested so intensely that they quickly become endangered species. From the top of a cliff or the branch of a tree, the eagle-owl, watches its territory with head movements of an unflappable haughtiness.
All the counties of Terras de Sicó have cavities. Also almost all the different lithologies have caves, with special attention to the purest and carsifiable limestones of Middle Jurassic.
The cavities of the massif are generally small and of little development, some of which are notable for their size and beauty, but also for the unique geological and archaeological heritage.
It should be noted that a large part of the possible underground systems of the massif are still to be discovered.
Highlight for some of the main cavities of the counties of Terras de Sicó:
Cave of Arrifana (Condeixa-a-Nova), Cova do Ladrão (Soure), Algar da Janeia (Penela), Sistema do Dueça (Penela), Algar da Várzea, Cave of Algarinho, Cave of Soprador do Carvalho, Olho do Dueça.
